My name is Michael McClure, and I am a freelance motorsport writer with experience as a reporter, editor, and fact-checker across print, online, and multimedia platforms. When not at a racetrack, I divide my time between Buffalo, New York, and Eger, Hungary.
I currently focus on the various series on the road to Formula 1. In the past, I have also covered F1, NASCAR, and endurance racing. I care deeply about doing motorsport journalism the right way: with seriousness, integrity, and impartiality.
Since May 2022, I have reported for Feeder Series and InsideF2, two of the few motorsport news outlets that exclusively cover junior single-seater racing. I have written nearly 200 articles across both platforms and edited hundreds of pieces by others. I've spoken on record with almost every driver in F2 and F3 over the past three years and have interviewed many more in other series.
Highlights of my junior single-seater coverage have included serving as Feeder Series' first accredited media representative in the F1 support paddock at the 2022 Dutch Grand Prix; covering the 70th Macau Grand Prix from on site; and publishing an in-depth investigation into an ownership change at Rodin Motorsport, formerly Carlin. My time in the paddock has also helped me reveal a number of potential driver signings in F2 and F3 that later materialized.

I am the head of Feeder Series' copy editing department, which was created when I joined the platform. As head copy editor, I am responsible for ensuring the mechanical and factual accuracy of all published content. I also support our team of 15 reporters by offering them story pitches and giving them frequent, thoughtful feedback on their article drafts.
I have been InsideF2's primary representative in the F2 paddock and at virtual press conferences for the past two years. I have attended F2 rounds supporting the 2022 Hungarian Grand Prix, 2022 Italian Grand Prix, 2023 Dutch Grand Prix, and 2023 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix for InsideF2.
Though primarily a wordsmith, I also enjoy working with social media and graphic design. Leveraging my background in print journalism and yearbook production, I have created Feeder Series' first three e-books and helped the social media team with two graphics redesigns and myriad routine news posts.
I have appeared on both Feeder Series' and InsideF2's podcasts and hosted episodes of F2 and F3 commentator Chris McCarthy's Transfer Weekly podcast, produced by Feeder Series each winter.
My other freelance experience includes editing the English translation of a 200-page popular science book originally published in Hungarian and ghostwriting for a motorsport and luxury lifestyle platform. I have also edited fiction, nonfiction, poetry, academic papers, and application essays as a writing tutor. The work I've edited has helped students earn prestigious awards and scholarships, including the National Merit Scholarship, and gain acceptances to some of the best schools in the United States.
I began my journalism journey in 2020 as a news reporter and copy editor at The Chicago Maroon, the University of Chicago's award-winning independent student newspaper. I learned the ropes of journalism while covering local political elections, student demonstrations, neighborhood crime, and major research breakthroughs. Compared with some of those stories, writing race reports was a breeze!
I eventually assumed leadership roles at The Maroon on both the news and copy desks and served as managing editor from March 2023 to March 2024. In that role, I oversaw all editorial coverage and operations for both the website and the biweekly printed newspaper. Guiding our 150-person staff—many of them new to journalism—through special collaborations, political protests, and the occasional newsroom crisis profoundly shaped my approach to leadership.
In 2024, I earned my bachelor's degree in music and political science from the University of Chicago, where I also completed a minor in statistics and multiple courses in human rights and sociology. I wrote hundreds of thousands of words across all my courses, including several papers in excess of 9,000 words. Academic writing and research taught me the importance of precision and cohesion—two crucial skills for journalism.
I have played the piano for 17 years, earning two piano performance diplomas from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto along the way, and previously taught private and group lessons in music theory and history. Good teaching, like good writing, requires clarity. Working with middle and high school students, be it through music or the written word, challenges and inspires me in the best possible way.
